US Lucerne Tour for August this year

A 2 week tour is being organised for August this year to explore lucerne hay, silage and
seed production in the western USA. The tour will fly into Seattle then travel by coach
through major lucerne growing areas of Washington, Oregon and California, finishing in San Francisco. The tour is being coordinated by NSW DPI Agronomist Mary-Anne Lattimore who has
extensive experience in lucerne growing. The itinerary includes lucerne hay, silage and
seed producers, hay processors, dairy and beef feedlots, machinery companies, feed
testing labs, universities and research stations. The tour group will be addressed by farm advisers, marketers, university researchers,
lucerne specialists and plant breeders, and participants will get a chance to meet members of various hay associations.
Highlights include lucerne under centre pivot and subsurface drip irrigation, hybrid seed
production, “Roundup Ready” alfalfa and a 6000 cow dairy feedlot. It will also include some beautiful scenery and places of interest such as the Cascade
Mountains, Columbia River, Klamath Basin irrigation scheme, Shasta Dam, as well as
Crater Lake National Park, forests, lakes, waterfalls and western tourist attractions. For more information about this tour contact:
