Young Jack Loader, pictured with his prize a die cast John Deere tractor, was the winner of the AFIA Guess the Bale Weight Competition at the Elmore Field Days. Jack came the closest with a guess of 400kg, the 8x4x3 large square bale actually weighed 404kg.
Over 200 people entered the competition entering weights from 200kg to 2000kg, with most guesses in the 600-800kg range. Many experienced fodder producers and contractors entered the competition and will no doubt be seeking young Jack's advice on fodder production in the future.
In addition to winning the John Deere tractor Jack has won for his father, Bruce Loader, a 12 month membership to AFIA. Bruce and his family grow oats and lucerne for hay production at Ascot in Western Victoria.
AFIA would like to congratulate Jack on his win and welcome his family as AFIA's newest and luckiest members.
